A Simple Breath Technique

There’s a simple balanced breathing technique called Sama Vritti Pranayama, which means same and balanced breath. You may know it as box breathing. This technique involves equal counts on the inhale, the holding of the breath, the exhale, and the holding of the breath again before starting over. This style of breathing balances the prana, life force energy, flowing through our energy channels. The goal is to do four counts of each of the four stages of breath in order to balance your energy. This technique is also very useful to re-center yourself in times of stress or anxiety. If four counts is too much at first, start with two or three and work your way up. The key is breathing through each step the same amount of time to get the full effect. Try doing this each day for a few minutes. It’s a quick and easy way to center yourself.
